This is my first experience with rowing and I am loving it! Great total body workout, easy to use, very effective for toning, cardio, muscle strength, endurance and overall health. Very study, substancial machine. I did a great amount of research and I am extremely pleased with the Concept 2. The machine is smooth, study and relatively quiet, really just a strong "air sound". I don't find the seat uncomfortable, however I generally workout in 1 hour sessions and the seat becomes a little noticeable for that duration of time. Perhaps a seat pad isn't such a bad idea. Gloves also provide added comfort if rowing for a long time. Truly you will not be disappointed with any aspect of this machine. I am 4'11" and weigh 100 lbs and I have no difficulty with the dynamics of the size of the machine.

Im verry skeptical when it come to machines and fitness but this machine has made an optimist out of me. I run up a mountain 4 times a week. I run 4 to 6 hours on a tredmill with almost no trouble, but one hour on the concept 2 rowing machine and I am completely cooked. The only reason I gave it 4 stars and not 5 is because its bulky. but ive found if your going to get a machine its best to get one with some meat on its bones. anyone wanting to get into awsome shape this is for you.

I find the rowing machine quiet enough to use while watching a movie or video which keeps me motivated to continue. I enjoy the option of the fish game for variety. I bought this rower because I really liked rowing in the past. Not competitively, you just seemed to work up a sweat quickly. After scanning the internet it seemed like Concept 2 was the best product around. I love it. I'm not sure compared to other rowers how "quiet" it is. I humms pretty loudly but that doesn't bother me. I have been rowing for over two years now. This is my second rowing machine and it is amazing. Concept 2 is a fabulous company and their machine is worth the cost. Not only do they build a great rower, they support it with an amazing online community and options. You can upload your workout information to an online logbook and then rank that with other rowers from around the globe. They have monthly challenges and rewards for completing them. The rowing machine itself is very quiet while in operation. You can adjust the amount of resistance with a dampener on the side of the fly wheel which simulates drag on a boat. The monitor is amazing and gives you all the information that you need to track your progress.
The only con that I would give this wonderful machine is its size. The machine takes up a lot of space. So if you are planning on placing it in a smaller room, make sure that it's sparsily furnished. It breaks down very easily however and stores in two pieces that really save on the space. The online community and options with the quality of the machine itself make this a must have over other machines in its price range. Go with the Concept 2 model D!

I bought this for my husband because his only fitness is weekend bike-riding and an occasional basketball game, but he was fretting about the limitations on those two sports. I use this rower in CrossFit and have discovered it is great for cardio, abs, legs, arms and back. Great for upper body and upper and lower back. I really like how this rower feels compared to the others I tried. Very solid, strong and smooth. That makes it easier to do a longer workout. If I get bored, I try the fish game on the display which is fun and varies the workout intensity up and down. This is the same machine you'll find in a lot of clubs that use them all day long and they last forever. It's not as quiet as they advertise but not bad.

I am super lazy--- my husband, on the other hand, is a lifetime athlete. We both love our Concept 2 rowing machine. I feel great during and after rowing. I can feel my entire core being worked out. My husband was in great shape before getting the machine is now in excellent shape. He LOVES it. Our 11-year-old even enjoys using it. He earns tv/computer time by rowing.

I like the convenience of this machine being at home. I would have to take 2-3 hours out of my day to exercise if I were to go to the gym. I have not worked out a lot recently but my new rowing machine actually makes it easy to get out of bed in the mornings and exercise before work. It is easy to use but challenging physically. Very nice machine - smooth. Flywheel really makes it a pleasure to row. Seat moves very nicely. Sturdy felling. I ordered with M4 monitor/wireless heart monitor and quite disappointed. Wireless heart rate monitor is a waste of money - very flaky. If you insert memory card in M4, on a next use, it will ask you to remove it or threatens to reformat it. Mechanically it is great, but don't waste your money on "advanced" monitor.

The rower was easy to assemble and provides a smooth workout that can be ratcheted up or down depending upon user. It's great for a quick 10-15 minute workout when time's tight and is helping me get in my much need cardio. While it's still a fairly new part of our fitness efforts, the Concept 2 definitely looks to be a keeper - for a lifetime.

This is a great machine. It is made very well, runs very smoothly and should last a very long time. It is worth the extra money compared to some of the lower priced rowers out there. The only drawback is it's length. You will need a room that has a good 8' to 9' to accomodate.

I had a heart problem, corrected with a stent about 3 months ago. I was introduced to this product at cardiac rehab at my hospital. Out of the 5 machines I was using at the hospital, the Concept II rowing machine was my favorite. I bought this product for my home gym and ungraded it with the heart monitoring option. It was very easy to set up and use. There is a lot of information accessible on the monitor, but, I love being able to monitor my heart rate as I work out. My heart rate is the most important piece of information to me. I turned 60 about a week ago and I will be using this machine for years to come!

My husband and I purchased this together and he works out several times a week besides using this machine.
I used to walk but have had knee surgery and now my other knee is also weak. So for exercise I am out of practice. I notice that in using this machine, I am gaining muscle and am toning after three weeks. The low impact on my knees is wonderful.
I use it for 5 min at a time and have gone as much as 20 minutes without pain or problems. I do 5 minute repetitions three times in a day.

As a personal trainer and a competitive triathlete I use the rower for cardio training, circuit training, and high intensity interval training for myself and clients. It's easy to use and it's a great warm up tool for upper and lower body. They only thing I don't like is taking it apart. It's not a cut and dry detachment, unless I'm doing something wrong, but the assembly is extremely easy.

I've used Concept 2 models for over a decade now at the boat house and in the gym. Now that I finally have room for my own rower there was no other model I was going to choose. The only slight complaint I have is that the picture is a little misleading. The model D is actually a much deeper blue than what I saw online. I chose the Concept 2 Rower for home use after using it at my gym. Even after a year or so of using an elliptical machine, I was challenged by the different workout on the rower. I can feel that I am making more progress with less jarring and bouncing. My husband has 2 herniated disks in his back, and although he has only used it a few times, we are seeing MUCH less impact from the rower which will lead to less pain.

We also called the company as soon as we set it up to ask a question about the monitor and received immediate and thorough customer service.

We bought this knowing we could get a great cardio & overall body toning workout right at home! Since I am no longer 18 years old and able to eat an entire pizza without huge consequences...I was looking for a quick, steady workout to dovetail with my jogging. Hard to jog in the snow!

A friend in Knoxville suggested the Concept 2 rower. I have never rowed a day in my life but the more I read about this machine and the more my friend (who happens to be a medical doctor and a competitive rower) talked it up...The more I wanted to try one.

My wife and I purchased a rower and love it. Very easy to set-up. The videos explain exactly how to row correctly. The first time I tried our rower, I lasted 2000 M on some pretty easy settings. My legs felt like jello when I got off. I can jog 2.75 miles in 30 mins, btw. I can see myself using this machine for many, many years to come.

Very well built. Very quiet...I was surprized at that. The only down side would be the footprint. This is not a machine that tucks under a bed. All things considered...I am 100% satisfied and that excited as well.

Have only had the rower for 2 months and really enjoy the exercise it provides. Very smooth operation, sturdy build and easily assembled. I researched rowers for a while and decided on Concept 2 becuase I have used these rowers in the past at fitness clubs. Due to foot and ankle problems, I haven't had many options for a good aerobic workout. This led me into a sedentary lifestyle, but being fat didn't make me as jolly as I'd hoped. I needed to do something about my physical condition. I decided to try a rower and now I'm glad I did.

We purchased a Concept 2 rower 15 years ago. I am 65 years old and do about 30,000 meters a week, most at home, the remainder at the gym we attend. It has kept me fit, helped me recover from hip replacement surgery 8 years ago and a broken leg 3 years ago. I normally use running as primarty exercise and utilize a heart monitor. I can barely get above 145 beats per minute....but using the Concept 2, I am able to maintain a heart rate over 145 for an extended period of time. While running, it is only going all out or going uphill that I can get my heart rate up that high. So that is what I like about the Concept 2. My only complaint is the display monitor. I wish it was a little more user friendly and provided more options. Overall, great machine!

Although new, I plan to use this machine 3 days/week at first, until I build up my stamina. Later I will move to 5 days/week. I will use it when my husband works out on his bike or listen to my iPod. It's the best machine available and I'm in my middle fifties. I wanted to have something that was good for me and was made well. This serves both purposes. I love it!

the only thing i wish was different is the heal holder on foot aspect was foam/gel padded as we do not wear shoes in home and i like to work out in bare feet or with socks. you should make a pad that can slide or velcro to the heal thus eliminating soreness on heal of those who exercise bare foot. what do you think?

I use this every day as another alternative to my other work out machines. It's great as a circuit machine or if you just have time to do one thing...rowing seems to be the best 'all around' conditioner. I am a runner with knee problems so I have been walking on a treadmill, using an elliptical trainer and now I added the rowing machine...the best addition ever!

I was a lifelong swimmer, but after I became a dad, I found it hard to get out of the house and into a pool at 5 a.m. I bought a cheaper ergonomic rowing machine and used regularly for eight years, and liked it, but stopped feeling challenged by it a couple of years ago. I use my machine every other day, alternating with yoga. It is a great workout, convenient and effective. Even on days I am exhausted from work, there is my machine, and once I get on it I feel so much better. Even 30 minutes makes a difference. It's long, and takes up space, but is so well built and well designed I don't mind. It was also easy to put together. I highly recommend it for anyone. The intensity of the workout is up to you.

My husband and I use this rowing machine to get exercise after work, especially in the winter months when the weather prohibits walking. I use this rowing machine daily and it is the best I have ever been on. It's quiet,comfortable and the programs are fantastic. It comes with a CD that explains proper rowing posture and movement that I think would be very helpful to a beginner. My advice is do not hesitate to purchase this machine. I purchased my concept 2 a year ago with the intent to use it every day. Unfortunately, I've used it fairly sporadically, but it's great for winter use when outside activities are limited.
Since I'm not in the shape I once was and I suffer from chronic pain, its more difficult than it used to be, but the rower is a great low-impact full body work out for those with joint issues, as well as athletes of any level.
It's very bulky and a pain to store, but does separate into 2 pieces. I have not used a more solid unit.

Super easy set-up - 10 minutes, including removing it from the packaging. Sturdy design. Quiet, but the resistance fan does make some noise that will travel through walls. I liked the one at my local gym so much, I purchased it for my home.

I have been using a high quality stationary bike for the past three years because I like low impact cardiovascular training. I did other exercises for the upper body, but was never really satisfied. I saw a rowing event on the Beijing olympics and thought that rowing would be the perfect total body low impact work out. After extensive internet research, I bought the C2 Model D.

I have had this machine now for about a month and am astonished with the results. I am upto one hour on the machine at a cadance of 24 strokes per minute. The monitor says I burn about 620 calories in that time. I am in fairly good cardiovascular health (resting heart rate of 50), and I feel like I have just had my tail kicked every time I get off this machine. I use it twice a week and look forward to every tail kicking. I still use the bike once a week.

With the exception of the chest and triceps just about every large mucle group is used extensively. The ab workout is incredible. If you spend an hour on the machine, its like you've just done a 1 hour abdominal crunch. The back strengthening helps to improve posture and has eliminated the neck and low back pains I used to have. (I used to weight lift to improve upper body strength but kept getting neck muscle spasms. The reason that doesn't happen with this machine is that it is building the right type of muscle fibers- Slow Twitch. For those interested muscle physiology- we have two types of muscle fibers- Slow Twitch and Fast Twitch. Fast twitch fibers put out bursts of energy as when we do an all out sprint. They put out great energy at first, but fatigue easily. The Slow twitch fibers maintain low levels of output, but don't fatigue easily. These are the muscles that are responsible for maintaining posture, etc throughout the day. This is the reason that male Olympic Gymnasts with huge back muscles say they live in constant back pain. Most of their training consists of bursts of powerful activity. They have large amounts of fast twitch muscles in the back that fatigue when trying to maintain posture all day.)

Anyway, back to the machine. It offers a fantastic work out at all levels. At stroke rates of 12 spm, I feel like I am not exercising. At 24 spm, I am getting a very good aerobic work out. At 35spm, I feel like I am power lifting. The resistance the machine puts out is limited only by your own strength.

I agree with one of the other comments- there is something very meditative about rowing. In the end, I haven't tried any other machines, but you can't go wrong with the C2.
